Being a regular at Mary Stevens Park herself, Margot knows how important the area is to local residents. However, after 100 staff were relocated from the Children’s Services Department at Dudley Council to a building in the park, there has been a huge strain on car parking in the area. The move has also impacted the surrounding residential area, as staff and park users overflow from the main car park and leave their vehicles in nearby narrow side streets.
Margot, together with Councillor Heather Rodgers, has put pressure on Dudley Council to seek a solution that allows staff to reach their place of work without impacting local residents and park users. Cllr. Rodgers has discovered a ‘Deed of Gift’ from Earnest Stevens, Stourbridge’s greatest benefactor, which bestows the park to the public. The deed contains many provisions on how the land should be used, and Margot has written to the Charity Commission to see whether staff using the car park at the detriment of visitors breaches any of these provisions.
