Margot nominates The Shovel Inn, Lye, for Parliamentary Pub of the Year award

The MP for Stourbridge is backing a local pub for an annual award. Margot James, has nominated The Shovel Inn on Pedmore Road in Lye, for Parliamentary Pub of the Year. Recently undergoing a refurbishment, The Shovel Inn has a central bar serving three areas, Sports TV’s, stylish lounge and a rear seating area. It serves five beers and seven rotating guest beers.

Margot James, MP for Stourbridge said: “The Shovel showcases quality real ales and promotes a great community atmosphere. It also has its own beer, “Shovelicious”, brewed by local brewery Enville. The pub hosts well attended community events throughout the year, including the must visit German Christmas Market, where the large beer garden is turned into a mini German Market for serving food and drinks.”

Stephen Hopkins, owner of the Shovel Inn added: “This nomination is a bolt out of the blue and is a real honour. It is great to have someone like Margot James acknowledge us, particularly as we put on a number of events for the community regularly throughout the year including on November 2, when we are raising money for Mary Stevens Hospice. We are battling hard – pubs are closing everywhere so it’s a great boost to be recognised.”
